Design Hero
As part of a project focused on honoring personal design heroes, I chose Ralph McQuarrie, the visionary concept artist behind the original Star Wars trilogy. His work shaped one of the most iconic universes in cinematic history, and as a lifelong fan of the franchise, I wanted to celebrate his legacy. This project explores McQuarrie’s artistic journey through a cohesive design system: a typographic poster, a curated booklet, a mobile experience, and a motion animation that pays tribute to the imaginative worldbuilding he helped bring to life.
Booklet
This booklet tells the story of Ralph McQuarrie’s enduring influence on the Star Wars universe. Through a curated selection of visuals and narrative, it explores how his conceptual work laid the foundation for the franchise’s iconic aesthetic and how it persists to this day. From original sketches to modern reinterpretations, the booklet traces how McQuarrie’s vision continues to shape the look and feel of both current and future Star Wars projects.
Motion Animation
Poster
This poster visualizes the career and influence of Ralph McQuarrie through a cosmic, orbit-inspired timeline. Using planetary motion as a metaphor for his creative influence, the layout charts McQuarrie’s evolution from early technical illustration to his foundational role in shaping the Star Wars universe. Each orbit represents a decade of work, connecting key moments, concept art, and lasting contributions. The circular motion not only reflects McQuarrie’s wide-reaching impact but also positions him as the central force in visual storytelling.
